Haskap Sweet is Chitose Winery's entry-level haskap fruit wine, made from Hokkaido's native haskap berry (Lonicera caerulea). Haskap grows wild in the Yufutsu plain west of New Chitose Airport and along the Pacific coast of the Hidaka and Tokachi areas, and is cultivated commercially almost nowhere else in the world outside Hokkaido. At a gentle 7% ABV — the lowest of Chitose Winery's four haskap wines — this is a tangy-sweet, fruit-forward off-dry style meant to be easy-drinking, distinct from the drier, higher-alcohol Haskap Semi-Dry (12%) and the more concentrated Haskap Premium Sweet (12%), which uses a larger proportion of haskap fruit. Relaunched in April 2019, it is sold in 720ml and 360ml bottles; the producer's official page does not disclose a specific harvest vintage or residual sugar figure.

Sommelier's Note

The lightest, most approachable member of Chitose Winery's haskap lineup — a low-alcohol, sweet-tart fruit wine that showcases Hokkaido's signature berry without overwhelming a newcomer's palate.

New to wine?

A gentle, low-alcohol introduction to Japanese fruit wine — sweet-tart, fruity, and easy to enjoy chilled or warmed.

Food Pairings

The producer recommends it as an aperitif or served warm as a mulled ('hot') wine. Its bright berry acidity also works well with fresh goat cheese, fruit tarts, and light desserts, as well as Japanese dishes with a touch of sweetness such as teriyaki-glazed dishes or mitarashi dango.

When to drink it

A relaxed aperitif, a warm mulled-wine treat on a cold Hokkaido evening, or a distinctive Hokkaido souvenir/gift.

Terroir & Winemaking

Fruit wine fermented from Hokkaido-grown haskap berries; ABV 7%, noticeably lower than Chitose Winery's other haskap wines (Semi-Dry and Premium Sweet, both 12%). Bottled in 720ml and 360ml formats. The official product page does not publish harvest year, residual sugar, or detailed fermentation specifics.
