Château Reynon

シャトー・レイノン

The living legacy of Denis Dubourdieu — the scientist who redefined white Bordeaux — expressed in crystalline, precise Sauvignon Blanc.

Château Reynon is a prestigious estate located in Béguey, on the hillside slopes overlooking the Garonne River in the Entre-Deux-Mers area of Bordeaux. Acquired by the David family in 1958, it was taken over in 1976 by Florence David and her husband Denis Dubourdieu — the legendary professor of oenology at the University of Bordeaux, known worldwide as 'Le Pape du Blanc' (The Pope of White Wine). Denis Dubourdieu's pioneering research into Sauvignon Blanc aromatics, including the identification of thiols responsible for its signature aromas, transformed the style of white Bordeaux. Château Reynon produces three wines: a Bordeaux Blanc (Sauvignon Blanc), a Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux rouge (primarily Merlot), and a rosé. The white has received particular acclaim — the 2022 vintage earned a gold medal at the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon and 90 points from Vinous. Since Denis's passing in 2016, his sons Jean-Jacques and Fabrice continue the estate with the same exacting standards he established.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Denis Dubourdieu and why does he matter?
Denis Dubourdieu (1949–2016) was a Professor of Oenology at the University of Bordeaux for 40 years and is credited with revolutionizing white Bordeaux. He identified the thiols — organic compounds responsible for the vivid aromas of Sauvignon Blanc — and pioneered lees stirring and precision vinification techniques that transformed the entire region's approach to white wine. He was nicknamed 'Le Pape du Blanc' (The Pope of White Wine).
What makes Château Reynon white wine distinctive?
The Château Reynon Blanc is made from Sauvignon Blanc grown on the clay-limestone hillsides of Béguey. It is known for crystalline purity, vibrant citrus and elderflower aromas, crisp acidity, and a mineral finish — a textbook example of the precise, fresh style that Denis Dubourdieu championed. The 2022 vintage won gold at the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon and scored 90 points from Vinous.
What appellations does Château Reynon produce?
Château Reynon produces two primary wines: a Bordeaux Blanc (Sauvignon Blanc) and a Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux Rouge, made primarily from Merlot (around 81%) with Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. A rosé under the Bordeaux appellation is also produced. Despite holding only basic Bordeaux appellations, the wines are widely considered among the wisest quality-for-value buys in the region.
Is Château Reynon still family-owned?
Yes. After Denis Dubourdieu passed away in July 2016, his sons Jean-Jacques and Fabrice took over management of Château Reynon under Denis Dubourdieu Domaines. They continue to uphold the meticulous viticulture and vinification standards established by their father.
Does the white wine pair well with Japanese cuisine?
Exceptionally well. The Château Reynon Blanc's vibrant acidity, citrus-forward aromatics, and clean mineral finish make it a natural partner for sushi, sashimi, lightly seasoned steamed fish, and agedashi tofu. Its precision and freshness echo the clean flavors that define Japanese cuisine.
