Charmant Assemblage Red is a blended red wine from Charmant Wine (Eigashima Shuzo's Yamanashi winery), sourced from the company's own vineyards in the Hakushu district of Hokuto City and the Hosaka district of Nirasaki City, Yamanashi, at the foot of the Southern Alps. The blend is built around Muscat Bailey A (approximately 82%), rounded out with Cabernet Franc (approximately 10%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (approximately 8%). Multiple French oak barrels from different coopers are used and assembled together to add depth and complexity, following the winery's philosophy of blending several base wines into a layered, well-structured cuvée. The grapes are grown with reduced pesticide use and organic fertilizer, with yields kept low to concentrate flavor. The result is a soft, medium-bodied red with gentle tannins and a distinctive, savory depth, offered at an accessible price point compared to Charmant's single-vineyard Cabernet Franc and Merlot cuvées.

Sommelier's Note

A well-judged everyday assemblage — proof that a Muscat Bailey A blend, lifted by a touch of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon and rounded out in French oak, can offer real depth at a modest price.

Versatile with everyday dishes — hamburg steak and other ground-meat preparations, grilled or simmered meat dishes, and soy-based Japanese cooking. Its soft tannins also make it a good match for delicate dishes like yuba (tofu skin) and tofu.
