About this wine
Rosé delle Casasse is Cascina Baricchi's flagship Barbaresco Riserva and the only Barbaresco in existence made entirely from Nebbiolo Rosé, a rare and highly aromatic Nebbiolo clone that had nearly disappeared from the Langhe after growers shifted to higher-yielding clones in the mid-20th century. The wine comes from twenty rows of ungrafted Nebbiolo Rosé vines planted in 1913 in the historic Casasse vineyard, on a west-facing slope of clay, sand and Sant'Agata marl straddling Neive and Neviglie. Winemaker Natale Simonetta inherited stewardship of these vines from his mentor, the legendary Bruno Giacosa, on condition that he bottle the clone entirely on its own — something no producer had attempted before. Farmed organically with minimal intervention, hand-harvested and vinified with long macerations and patient aging in large, neutral barrels, the wine is built to showcase the vineyard's century-old vines rather than winemaking technique.
A rare chance to taste a nearly extinct Nebbiolo clone — floral, savory, and unlike any other Barbaresco.
Sommelier's Note
"The only 100% Nebbiolo Rosé Barbaresco in existence — living proof that this nearly lost clone deserves a permanent seat at Piedmont's top table."
Food Pairings
Its lifted rose-petal and red-berry perfume, savory spice notes and firm structure make it a natural match for duck, goose and other game birds, braised meats and mushroom-forward dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses.

Terroir & Winemaking
100% Nebbiolo Rosé from ungrafted vines planted in 1913 in the Casasse vineyard on the Neive/Neviglie border, a west-facing slope of clay, sand and Sant'Agata marl. Certified organic farming, hand harvest, native-yeast fermentation, long maceration, and extended aging in large, neutral (previously used) oak botti that avoid imparting new-oak character. Released as Riserva under Barbaresco DOCG regulations. ABV approximately 14-14.5%.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What makes Rosé delle Casasse unique?
- It is the only Barbaresco in the world made entirely from Nebbiolo Rosé, a rare aromatic clone farmed from ungrafted vines planted in 1913 in the Casasse vineyard.
- How is it different from a standard Barbaresco?
- Most Barbaresco relies on the more common Nebbiolo Lampia or Michet clones. Rosé delle Casasse uses 100% Nebbiolo Rosé, which gives it a lighter garnet color, more pronounced floral aromatics (rose, red berries) and a more perfumed, savory profile.
- What is the best serving temperature and glassware?
- Serve at 16-18°C in a large Burgundy-style glass to let the floral aromatics open up. Younger vintages benefit from 1-2 hours of decanting.
- How long can it age?
- Well-structured vintages can develop for 15-20+ years, though the wine is already expressive and enjoyable within 5-8 years of release.
