Steuben Rosé is a still (non-sparkling) rosé wine made entirely from Steuben, a cold-hardy black American hybrid grape, by Bookroad Winery (葡蔵人~BookRoad~), the small urban winery in Taito Ward, Tokyo. Marketed as BookRoad's first-ever Steuben wine, the 2025 vintage uses grapes grown in Tsuruta, Aomori Prefecture. The wine is made with roughly 15 hours of skin contact to extract a rosé hue and light tannic structure, then bottled unfiltered to preserve a rustic yet flavorful character. It comes in at 11.5% ABV and was sold at ¥3,520 before selling out. This still rosé is a distinct cuvée from Bookroad's separate Steuben Sparkling (a sparkling rosé also made from 100% Steuben) — the two share the grape variety but differ in both winemaking method (still vs. sparkling) and grape source (Aomori vs. Yamanashi/Nagano contract growers).
As Bookroad's first still expression of Steuben, this rosé shows a rustic, unfiltered side of the variety that its sparkling sibling doesn't — well worth seeking out if a new vintage returns.
