Attilio Ghisolfi

Pinot Noir

About this wine

An unusual project for a Barolo estate: 100% Pinot Noir grown in Monforte d'Alba's Visette area, representing Ghisolfi's small experiment outside the traditional Nebbiolo/Barbera territory. Aged in small oak barrels for about 12 months, it shows mushroom and red fruit aromas on the nose, with cherry and strawberry flavors joined by white pepper and cinnamon spice, and a sour-cherry finish.

Beginner's Note

A lighter, food-friendly red for those curious about Piedmont beyond Nebbiolo and Barbera.

Sommelier's Note

"Pinay is Ghisolfi's playful side project — a Pinot Noir with enough spice and acidity to hold its own on a Piedmontese table."

Food Pairings

Works well on its own or with white meats, vegetarian dishes, and lightly smoked cheeses.

When to drink it

Light dinners, wine tasting comparisons, pairing with poultry or vegetarian menus

Pinay is a small experimental bottling exploring varieties outside the traditional Nebbiolo/Barbera focus, grown in the estate's Visette-area vineyards.
How is Pinay different from Burgundian Pinot Noir?
It's grown on Piedmont's calcareous marl soils and aged in small oak barrels, giving a spicier, more savory profile than typical cool-climate Burgundy styles.
What food pairs well with Pinay?
It pairs nicely with white meats, vegetarian dishes, and lightly smoked cheeses, or on its own.
