Morellino di Scansano

モレッリーノ・ディ・スカンサーノ

Antonio Camillo

Sangiovese

About this wine

Antonio Camillo's DOCG entry, made from 100% Sangiovese (locally called Morellino) and aged around four months in concrete, which he favors over wood because it lets the wine "breathe" while preserving fresh fruit. Certified organic, it's an early-drinking style with bright, crunchy fruit rather than heavy tannin or oak. Some releases are labeled with the vineyard name Cotozzino, in the Comune di Campagnatico.

Beginner's Note

An approachable, everyday Sangiovese with none of the heavy tannin that scares newcomers off Chianti-style reds.

Sommelier's Note

"Proof that Morellino doesn't need heavy oak to show its soul — this is Sangiovese at its most crunchy, honest, and drinkable."

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Morellino di Scansano the same grape as Chianti?
Yes — Morellino is the local Maremma name for Sangiovese, the same grape used in Chianti.
Why does Camillo age it in concrete instead of oak?
He believes concrete lets the wine breathe and develop without imparting the vanilla or spice notes of new oak, keeping the fruit character pure.
What food should I pair it with?
Grilled meats, tomato-based ragù, Tuscan bean stews, and hard cheeses are classic matches.
