Verduno
ヴェルドゥーノ
Barolo's most elegant, perfumed cru terroir
Verduno is the northernmost commune of the Barolo DOCG zone, perched on a ridge overlooking the Tanaro river plain toward the Alps. Its sandier, more calcareous soils give Barolo wines from crus like Monvigliero exceptional elegance, perfume, and finesse rather than raw power. Verduno is also the historic home of Verduno Pelaverga, a rare, spicy, aromatic red grape found almost nowhere else.

Comm. G.B. Burlotto
Founded in 1850 in Verduno by Giovan Battista Burlotto - one of the founding fathers of Barolo and official supplier to the Royal House of Savoy - Comm. G.B. Burlotto is among the oldest and most historic estates in the Barolo region. After a mid-20th-century lull, the estate was revived starting in the 1990s by Fabio Alessandria, Giovan Battista's great-great-grandson and fifth-generation winemaker, who produced his first vintage in 1994. Today Burlotto is world-renowned for its ethereal, whole-cluster Barolo Monvigliero, celebrated for its perfume, translucent color, and silky tannins. The estate follows a traditional approach - long macerations, native yeasts, and aging in large Slavonian oak botti - to express the pure terroir of Verduno, and is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious producers in all of Piedmont.

Diego Morra

The estate farms roughly 30 hectares across Verduno, La Morra and Roddi, and is the single largest owner within Verduno's celebrated 20-hectare Monvigliero hillside, tending about 4 hectares of heirloom vines averaging 40 years of age. Diego Morra's Barolo Monvigliero has earned strong critical acclaim (94 Falstaff points for the 2018 vintage, 95 for the 2021), and the estate is equally passionate about Verduno Pelaverga, the rare, spicy indigenous variety that reflects the unique terroir of the commune. Traditional viticulture combined with modern precision yields wines defined by finesse, balance, and a distinct sense of place.
