Founded in 1850 in Verduno by Giovan Battista Burlotto - one of the founding fathers of Barolo and official supplier to the Royal House of Savoy - Comm. G.B. Burlotto is among the oldest and most historic estates in the Barolo region. After a mid-20th-century lull, the estate was revived starting in the 1990s by Fabio Alessandria, Giovan Battista's great-great-grandson and fifth-generation winemaker, who produced his first vintage in 1994. Today Burlotto is world-renowned for its ethereal, whole-cluster Barolo Monvigliero, celebrated for its perfume, translucent color, and silky tannins. The estate follows a traditional approach - long macerations, native yeasts, and aging in large Slavonian oak botti - to express the pure terroir of Verduno, and is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious producers in all of Piedmont.
