Elba Aleatico Passito DOCG

エルバ・アレアティコ・パッシート DOCG

A rare, rose-scented sweet nectar from Elba island.

Elba Aleatico Passito DOCG is a rare sweet red wine produced exclusively on the island of Elba, off the Tuscan coast, from 100% Aleatico grapes. Following the traditional appassimento method, grapes are dried on wooden racks for about two weeks after harvest to concentrate their sugars before being pressed and vinified. Thanks to high levels of geraniol (the same aromatic compound found in roses), the wine offers an intensely perfumed bouquet of rose, violet, black cherry preserved in alcohol, cinnamon and candied orange, leading to a velvety, soft-tannined palate with well-balanced sweetness and acidity. Elba's Mediterranean climate — hot, sun-drenched summers cooled by sea breezes — combined with mineral-rich, iron- and phosphorus-laden soils gives the wine its distinctive character. Awarded DOCG status in 2011, it was the first DOCG wine of the Tuscan Archipelago and the eighth in all of Tuscany, crowning a viticultural tradition on the island dating back to Etruscan times.

Best for: Ideal for dessert wine lovers, collectors of rare Italian appellations, and anyone seeking a romantic after-dinner sipper.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Elba Aleatico Passito unique?
It is made from 100% Aleatico, a rare aromatic grape rich in geraniol (the compound also found in roses), grown only on the small Tuscan island of Elba. The island's Mediterranean climate and mineral-rich soils give it an intensely perfumed, velvety character found nowhere else.
Is this wine always sweet?
Yes. It is a passito wine, meaning the grapes are dried on racks for about two weeks after harvest to concentrate their sugars, so the finished wine is intentionally and consistently sweet.
When did Elba Aleatico Passito receive DOCG status?
It was promoted to DOCG in 2011, becoming the first DOCG wine of the Tuscan Archipelago islands and the eighth DOCG in the Tuscany region.
What does Elba Aleatico Passito taste like?
Deep ruby red with purple reflections, it shows an intense bouquet of black cherry preserved in alcohol, cinnamon and candied orange, with a sweet, velvety palate and soft tannins.
