Huggy-spark Chardonnay is a dry sparkling white made by Yamato Budoshu from Chardonnay grapes grown in Nagano Prefecture and matured in wooden casks. The barrel aging gives the wine a rich, fruity Chardonnay character layered with mature, woody notes, resulting in a full-bodied sparkling wine with a long, lingering finish. It has won a Silver Award at the Japan Wine Competition 2011.
One of the more distinctive Japanese sparkling wines built around Chardonnay rather than Koshu — the wood-aged character gives it real body for a domestic sparkler.
