Fourth-generation Chardonnay and Cap Classique specialist on rare limestone soils.

About Weltevrede Wine Estate

Founded in 1912 when Klaas Jonker began farming the land, Weltevrede Wine Estate in Bonnievale, Robertson, has remained in the Jonker family for four generations. Fourth-generation winemaker Philip Jonker, who joined the estate in 1997 after studying Viticulture and Oenology at Stellenbosch, has steered Weltevrede to become a dedicated Chardonnay and Methode Cap Classique (MCC) specialist, converting the estate fully to this focus in 2021. The property's exceptionally high limestone content, rare in South Africa, gives its Chardonnays a distinctive tension, freshness and minerality. Flagship still wines include Place of Rocks, Calcrete and Poet's Prayer Chardonnays, while the Philip Jonker Cap Classique range (first made in 1994) includes the Brut and the Rosetta Brut Rosé, alongside the estate's celebrated Entheos Ascendant.
