Randersacker's VDP estate for terroir-driven, dry Silvaner.

About Weingut Störrlein Krenig

Weingut Störrlein Krenig is a VDP member estate in Randersacker, in the Maindreieck heart of Franken. The Störrlein family has farmed vines here for generations; Armin and Ruth Störrlein took over the estate (then Weingut Josef Störrlein) from their parents in the 1960s, and in 2008 it merged with the neighboring vineyards of Armin's son-in-law Martin Krenig, who brought over five hectares of old Silvaner and Riesling vines, forming today's Weingut J. Störrlein & Krenig. The estate has belonged to the VDP since 1973 and is part of TRIAS, a five-estate Franconian quality alliance named for the Triassic soils (Muschelkalk shell limestone, Keuper) that shape the region's wines. Martin Krenig tends the vineyards and Armin Störrlein leads the cellar, guided by the shared conviction that a wine's beauty must grow in the vineyard rather than be engineered in the cellar. On roughly 11 hectares of shell-limestone slopes, the estate farms Silvaner (about 40%), Burgunder varieties such as Weißburgunder and Spätburgunder (around 20-25%), and Riesling (about 10%), alongside Müller-Thurgau, Sauvignon Blanc, Scheurebe, Bacchus, Schwarzriesling, Domina and Cabernet Sauvignon. Its VDP.Grosse Lage Hohenroth and VDP.Erste Lagen Randersackerer Teufelskeller and Randersackerer Marsberg, together with the historic Sonnenstuhl site documented since the 15th century, anchor dry, gastronomic wines that have earned recognition including a 2009 Austrian Wine Challenge white wine of the year award. The estate is Fair'n Green certified for its sustainable viticulture.

Since when has Störrlein Krenig been a VDP member?
The estate has belonged to the VDP, Germany's association of prestige wine estates, since 1973, and today produces classified wines from the VDP.Grosse Lage Hohenroth and VDP.Erste Lagen Teufelskeller and Marsberg in Randersacker.
What is the estate's signature grape variety?
Silvaner is the signature variety, making up roughly 40% of plantings and expressing the shell-limestone terroir of Randersacker in a dry, mineral, gastronomic style.
What winemaking philosophy guides Störrlein Krenig?
The estate holds that a wine's beauty should grow in the vineyard, not be engineered in the cellar - Martin Krenig manages the vines and Armin Störrlein the cellar, with an emphasis on reduced yields, hand-selective harvest and minimal cellar intervention.
What is TRIAS and is Störrlein Krenig part of it?
TRIAS is a quality alliance of five leading Franconian VDP estates - including Störrlein Krenig, Rudolf Fürst, Fürst Löwenstein, Johann Ruck and Schmitt's Kinder - named after the Triassic-era soils (Muschelkalk, Keuper) that define the region's top sites.
