About Weingut Schuh

Weingut Schuh is a family-run winery in Sörnewitz, near Meißen in Saxony, Germany's easternmost and smallest wine-growing region. Founded in 1990 by Walter Schuh, who relocated from the Mosel to the Elbe Valley after German reunification, the estate has been run since May 2016 by his children — winemaker Matthias Schuh and marketing and sales director Katharina Pollmer. The five-hectare estate farms steep vineyard sites along the Elbe, including the single vineyards Klausenberg and Kapitelberg, growing Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder, Spätburgunder, Regent, Dornfelder and other varieties. Weingut Schuh is best known for Dunkelfelder, a rare deep-red wine it is the only Saxon winery to produce as a pure varietal. Part of the vineyard has been certified organic since 2008, and the estate was recognized in 2001 by Saxony's environment and agriculture ministry as the region's first winery honored for sustainable viticulture. The property also includes an on-site vinothek, wine restaurant, and guest rooms.
