Weingut Schätzel
ヴァイングート・シェッツェル
Young VDP star reviving Nierstein's Roter Hang terroir.
About Weingut Schätzel
Weingut Schätzel is a roughly 650-year-old family estate in Nierstein, Rheinhessen, now led by Kai Schätzel together with Jule Eichblatt since 2008. A VDP member since 2016, the estate farms Riesling-dominant vineyards on the legendary Roter Hang (Red Slope), including the VDP.GROSSE LAGE sites Pettenthal, Ölberg and Hipping. Certified biodynamic (Demeter) and organic, Schätzel favors spontaneous fermentation, extended lees aging, and increasingly wines made without added sulfur, using a naturally forming flor to stabilize the wine instead. The result is precise, mineral, low-intervention Rieslings that have made Kai Schätzel one of Rheinhessen's most closely watched young winemakers.
Who Is This For?
For drinkers who want precise, low-intervention Riesling from a historic estate reinventing itself, and for those curious about sulfur-free winemaking.
