Third-generation Ahr estate on hand-worked slate slopes, rebuilt after the 2021 flood.
About Weingut Klosterhof Gilles
Weingut Klosterhof Gilles is a family-run winery in Dernau-Marienthal, in Germany's Ahr valley, cultivating 3.5 hectares of steep slate vineyards — about 80% of which must be worked entirely by hand. Now guided by the third generation, siblings Franz and Corinna Gilles continue the estate their father Bernd built, producing Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) alongside white, rosé and sparkling wines, plus homemade fruit spirits. Single-vineyard bottlings such as the Walporzheimer Kräuterberg and Marienthaler Jesuitengarten showcase the distinctive character of the Ahr's slate soils. The estate also runs a cozy wine tavern and guest rooms, all rebuilt after the devastating July 2021 Ahr flood severely damaged the property.
Who Is This For?
For those drawn to small, family-run German Pinot Noir producers with an authentic story of resilience, and travelers seeking a cozy wine tavern experience in the Ahr valley.
