VDP Riesling estate famed for sculptor-designed wine labels

About Weingut Klaus Zimmerling

Weingut Klaus Zimmerling is a small, family-run estate in Dresden-Pillnitz, in the Sachsen (Saxony) wine region on the Elbe river. Founded in 1992 by mechanical-engineer-turned-winemaker Klaus Zimmerling, the estate farms 4.5 hectares on the steep, south-facing Pillnitzer Königlicher Weinberg, on weathered granite and gneiss soils. Riesling, Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc), Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris), Kerner, Gewürztraminer and Traminer are grown without herbicides or synthetic pesticides, and the estate has been certified organic since 2020. Zimmerling has been a member of the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter) since 2010. Every vintage's label features a wooden sculpture by Zimmerling's wife, sculptor Małgorzata Chodakowska, whose works are also displayed throughout the vineyard and its sculpture garden.
