About Weingut Erwin Riske
Weingut Erwin Riske is a family estate in Dernau, in the heart of the Ahr valley, founded in 1925 and now in its fifth generation under siblings Katharina and Jan Riske, alongside their parents Mechthild and Volker Riske. The estate farms roughly five hectares of steep, slate- and greywacke-based vineyard sites — including Pfarrwingert, Hardtberg and Schieferlay in Dernau — following a 'Klasse statt Masse' (quality over quantity) philosophy: targeted pruning, canopy management, green harvest and hand-picking in multiple passes. About three-quarters of the plantings are Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), rounded out by Frühburgunder, Blauer Portugieser, Dornfelder, Riesling and Rivaner. Red wines are matured in large wooden casks or barrique and bottled unfiltered. The estate has been recognized by Gault Millau, Der Feinschmecker and Eichelmann, and its 2022 Schieferturm Spätburgunder trocken earned 93 points from Falstaff critic Ulrich Sautter. Visitors can taste on-site at the estate's seasonal Straußwirtschaft and stay in its vacation apartments.
