VDP estate since 1510, Lemberger & Spätburgunder specialist

About Weingut Dautel

Weingut Dautel is a family estate in Bönnigheim, Württemberg, with winemaking documented since 1510. Ernst Dautel left the local cooperative in the mid-1970s and pioneered dry, barrique-aged red wines in the region; his son Christian Dautel, trained in Geisenheim and Bordeaux, now runs the estate. Rather than Riesling, the winery's signature is Lemberger and Spätburgunder from steep muschelkalk sites such as Schupen, Steingrüben and Wurmberg/Niedernberg near Besigheim. Dautel has been a member of the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter) since 1999, farms around 17 hectares, and has been certified organic since the 2024 vintage.
