Vine Venom
ヴァインヴェノム
One-woman Swartland micro-cuvée project of flor, skin-contact and Cap Classique wines.
About Vine Venom
Vine Venom is a South African micro-négociant project founded by winemaker Samantha Suddons, who trained with the Cape Wine Academy and WSET and gained experience at Mullineux and Reyneke before launching her own label. Based in the Swartland, the project began almost by accident as a personal passion for Méthode Cap Classique and sparkling wine, with the debut Serenade 2015 (a barrel-fermented, five-years-on-lees Cap Classique of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier) winning a WineMag Top 10 Cap Classique award. Vine Venom has since expanded into a range of unconventional, minimal-intervention still wines — flor-aged and skin-contact Chenin Blanc, oxidative rosé blends and light reds — built around old-vine fruit from the Swartland and neighbouring Elgin. Bottlings are typically non-vintage, produced in tiny volumes, and released under playful names such as Silence, Skin, Shining and Satellites.
Who Is This For?
For adventurous drinkers who enjoy oxidative, flor-influenced and skin-contact wines, and anyone curious about South Africa's small-producer natural wine scene beyond the well-known Swartland names.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Who founded Vine Venom?
- Vine Venom was founded by winemaker Samantha Suddons, who previously worked at Mullineux and Reyneke before starting her own micro-négociant label in the Swartland.
- What is Vine Venom's winemaking philosophy?
- Vine Venom favours minimal-intervention, often non-vintage winemaking, with a particular focus on flor ageing, skin-contact Chenin Blanc, oxidative rosé styles and traditional-method Cap Classique sparkling wine.
- Where do Vine Venom's grapes come from?
- Fruit is sourced mainly from old vines in the Swartland, with some parcels drawn from the cooler Elgin ward for the sparkling wine program.
- What grape varieties does Vine Venom use?
- The range centres on Chenin Blanc (still and flor-aged), plus Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier for the Cap Classique, and Syrah, Cinsault, Carignan, Grenache and Touriga Nacional for the reds and rosés.
- Does Vine Venom have a physical tasting room or official website?
- Vine Venom operates as a small négociant-style project without a public tasting room; its domain vinevenom.com currently redirects to a private site, so its wines are best found through South African stockists such as WineCellar.co.za and The Wine Kollective, or via its Instagram account @vinevenom.
