About Vincenz Richter
Weingut Vincenz Richter is a family-run winery in Meißen, in Germany's easternmost wine region of Saxony, founded in 1873 by Vincenz Anton Richter and now led by fourth-generation winemaker Thomas Herrlich. Roughly 9 hectares of vines on the steep Meißner Kapitelberg and Gellertberg (Weinböhla) sites yield Müller-Thurgau, Riesling, Kerner, Traminer, Bacchus, Scheurebe, Weißburgunder, Spätburgunder and Cabernet Dorsa, vinified into still wines, Sekt from its own Sektmanufaktur, and spirits from its licensed distillery. In 2001 it became the first winery in Saxony to earn the DLG's 'recommended winery' certification. The estate's name is inseparable from the Renaissance guild house built in 1523 that long housed the family's celebrated Restaurant Vincenz Richter — that historic restaurant closed in April 2024 when its longtime owners retired, but the winery itself continues to operate and welcomes visitors at its Kapitelholzsteig vinotheque.
