Reviving Saar Riesling's historic greatness through precision, terroir-driven winemaking.

About Van Volxem

Van Volxem is a historic VDP estate in Wiltingen on the Saar, whose vineyards trace back to a Roman-era villa first planted around the 3rd century AD and later cultivated by a Luxembourg Jesuit monastery. Acquired in 2000 by Roman Niewodniczanski, the estate was painstakingly restored and expanded to roughly 50 hectares of steep, slate-and-quartzite vineyards, including 15 VDP.GROSSE LAGE sites such as the legendary Scharzhofberg. Committed to low-intervention, spontaneous-fermentation winemaking without cultured yeast or fining, Van Volxem has become the driving force behind the renaissance of Saar Riesling, producing dry and off-dry wines celebrated for their mineral precision and aging potential.
