Tokoname Pinot Noir Rose is a dry rosé from Tokoname Winery Neighborhood, made from 100% Pinot Noir grown on the winery's own Pacific-coast hillside vineyards in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture. Rather than the classic saignée or direct-press method, the producer deliberately vinifies the red grapes using a white-wine ('blanc de noir') technique, extracting only brief, gentle color and giving the wine a crisp, precise structure closer to a white than a typical rosé. It shows soft cherry and raspberry aromas with a touch of fruit sweetness balanced by bright, dry acidity — an easy-drinking 'blush' style. The 2020 vintage of this cuvée earned a 5-star rating in a blind tasting held by the Japanese wine magazine Wine Kingdom (Wine Oukoku), one of the winery's most decorated bottlings.
The blanc-de-noir technique is what sets this rosé apart from an ordinary saignée-style pink wine — it's a precision, white-wine-minded approach to Pinot Noir that happens to come out pink, and the 5-star blind-tasting result backs up the intent.

- How is Tokoname Pinot Noir Rose different from Tokoname Pinot Noir and Tokoname Pinot Noir Amphora?
- All three use 100% Tokoname-grown Pinot Noir, but they diverge in vinification and color: the standard Tokoname Pinot Noir and the Amphora bottling are both fully red wines (the Amphora aged in beeswax-lined Tokoname-yaki clay jars), while Tokoname Pinot Noir Rose skips red maceration entirely, using a white-wine (blanc de noir) method to produce a pale, crisp rosé instead.
- Is Tokoname Pinot Noir Rose the same as Tokoname Merlot Rose?
- No. Tokoname Pinot Noir Rose is made from 100% Pinot Noir using the blanc de noir (white-wine vinification) technique, while Tokoname Merlot Rose is a separate cuvée made from Merlot; they come from different grapes and are distinct wines in the winery's rosé lineup.
- What does Tokoname Pinot Noir Rose taste like?
- It shows soft cherry and raspberry aromas with a touch of fruit sweetness, finishing crisp and dry — an easy-drinking, food-friendly blush wine rather than a sweet rosé.
- Has Tokoname Pinot Noir Rose won any awards?
- Yes. The 2020 vintage earned a 5-star rating in a blind tasting conducted by the Japanese wine magazine Wine Kingdom (Wine Oukoku), making it one of the winery's most recognized bottlings.
