Springfield Estate
スプリングフィールド・エステート
Bruwer family estate famed for mineral, terroir-driven Sauvignon Blanc.
About Springfield Estate
Springfield Estate is a family-run wine farm in the Bonnievale ward of South Africa's Robertson Valley, owned by the Bruwer family — ninth-generation descendants of French Huguenots who arrived from the Loire in 1688. J.S. Bruwer bought the farm in 1902, and today Abrie Bruwer, the fourth generation to farm these vineyards, crafts wines under the motto 'Made on Honour.' The estate is celebrated above all for its Sauvignon Blanc, especially the flinty, mineral-driven 'Life from Stone,' grown on rocky, quartz-rich soil. Winemaking favours minimal intervention: indigenous wild-yeast fermentation (including in underground cement tanks for the Wild Yeast Chardonnay), unfiltered and unfined bottling, and patient oak ageing, as with the pioneering Méthode Ancienne Cabernet Sauvignon, first made in 1997 and famously matured for years in galvanised cages submerged in the Indian Ocean off Cape Agulhas.
Who Is This For?
For drinkers who love precise, mineral-driven white wines and appreciate low-intervention, terroir-first winemaking with a strong sense of place.
