Poggio La Luna is a small family-run organic estate in the Maremma hills near Scansano, along the provincial road of Ragnaie between Saturnia and Scansano. Founded by Elisabetta Tommasoni, who moved from Rome to Maremma in 2012, the estate is now run together with her sons Filippo and Andrea. Of the 18-hectare property, only about 4 hectares are planted to vine; the rest is pasture for bees and olive groves, reflecting a farm built around biodiversity rather than monoculture. Grapes and olives are grown without synthetic pesticides, grass is left to grow between the rows, and machine use is kept to a minimum. In the cellar, wines are fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and bottled with low sulfite additions. The flagship wine is a 100% Sangiovese Morellino di Scansano DOCG, produced in tiny volumes (as few as roughly 1,300 bottles in some vintages), alongside Maremma Toscana DOC bottlings such as the Syrah-based Lunarius and the white blend Luna. Beyond wine, Poggio La Luna also produces extra virgin olive oil, artisanal honey, and grappa, and welcomes visitors for tastings by reservation.
