Poggio al Sole is a family-run organic estate in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, near Badia a Passignano, in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. Acquired by the Swiss Davaz family in 1990, the 70-hectare property (24 hectares under vine) sits atop a sun-drenched hill between Panzano, Greve in Chianti, and Barberino Tavarnelle. Johannes Davaz, an agronomist and oenologist, oversees the vineyards and cellar, while his wife Katrin handles international sales; since 2019 the second generation, Valentino and Stephanie, have joined the estate. The wines are certified organic and vegan, made through meticulous vineyard management, long maceration, and aging in Limousin and Nevers barriques, expressing an authentic, terroir-driven style of Sangiovese.
