Podere 414 is an organic estate in Magliano in Toscana, in the heart of the Maremma, run by Simone Castelli — son of renowned oenologist Maurizio Castelli. The property takes its name from the plot number assigned during the 1960s land reform. Since Simone began working the land in 1998, the estate has grown to around 13 hectares of certified organic, high-density vineyards straddling a river near Scansano, farmed without herbicides or chemical fertilizers together with his wife, agronomist Mara. Its flagship Morellino di Scansano DOCG — a Sangiovese-based blend rounded out with Colorino, Ciliegiolo, Alicante Bouschet and Syrah — has earned recognition including Gambero Rosso's Tre Bicchieri, and expresses the wild, Mediterranean character of the Maremma between sea and hills.
