オーバーガウ・エステート
A historic Stellenbosch pioneer, famous for South Africa's first Merlot and Bordeaux-style blend.
About Overgaauw Estate
Founded in 1905 by Abraham van Velden, Overgaauw Estate is a historic, fourth-generation family-run winery in the Stellenbosch Kloof. As a true pioneer in the South African wine industry, the estate was the first to introduce small French oak barrels for red wine maturation, produced the country's first Bordeaux-style blend (Tria Corda) in 1979, and was the first to bottle a single-varietal Merlot in the early 1980s. Situated on south-facing slopes with deep granite soils and cooling maritime breezes from False Bay, the estate focuses on producing elegant, terroir-driven wines with excellent natural acidity and longevity. Their philosophy balances a deep respect for heritage with meticulous viticulture and modern, minimal-intervention winemaking.
