Izu Rosé Dry is a dry rosé from Naka Izu Winery Chateau T.S., first released in January 2025 as the opening wine in the winery's 25th-anniversary 'Animal Rescue Label' series ('Pink'), which donates part of each sale to animal-welfare activities through the winery's 'Wine no Chikara' charity project. Made entirely from Izu-grown grapes -- primarily Merlot (55%) and Yama Sauvignon (27%), with smaller portions of Cabernet Franc (11%, harvested for the first time as a trial variety in 2024) and Syrah (7%) -- it is produced from fruit grown at the winery's own Nakaizu Shida Farm in Izu City, Shizuoka. In the glass it shows a pale copper hue tinged with pink and a glossy sheen, leading to a light, gentle palate that opens onto savory umami and a lingering finish. The blend ratio is recomposed each vintage, and a related non-charity 'Izu Rosé' bottling has since been released with a Merlot, Petit Manseng and Syrah composition.
A rare case where a limited-edition charity label turned into one of the winery's more interesting rosés -- the Cabernet Franc addition gives it more spine than a typical fruit-forward Japanese rosé.
