Monnosuke Farm is a tiny, family-run orchard-winery and cidery in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, a short drive from the Hanamaki-Minami interchange. Grower Tokugo Sugawara began farming the family's ancestral orchard land in 2017, first selling cider from home-grown apples in 2018. A home brewery completed in September 2021 let the farm obtain a fruit-wine license that October through the Hanamaki Craft Wine and Cider special zone, and its first estate wines — made from Merlot, Zweigeltrebe, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling Lyon and Gewürztraminer grown across roughly 70 acres alongside four apple varieties — were released in spring 2022. The name 'Monnosuke' is the traditional house name of Sugawara's family home, chosen to honor the land handed down to him and to share wine and cider that evoke a sense of furusato (hometown) from Hanamaki.
