About Mellish Family Vineyards

Mellish Family Vineyards is a boutique, terroir-driven producer located on the historic Welbeloond farm in the Durbanville wine valley, about 20km north of Cape Town and just 9km from the Atlantic Ocean. Founded by Andrew Mellish, who oversees vineyard management and winemaking, the estate released its first bottling in 2018 following vineyard plantings between 2000 and 2004. The wines, made in small batches and priced in the premium segment, include Syrah (Bakenkop), Chenin Blanc (Bakenkop), Blanc Fumé (barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc), and Pinotage (Klipmynpad), reflecting the cool-climate influence of the nearby ocean and ancient shale soils. The wines have regularly featured in Winemag's Top 10, and the 2021 Blanc Fumé won gold at the 2023 Global Fine Wine Challenge, the only South African Sauvignon Blanc to do so that year.
