Massolino
マッソリーノ
The benchmark of Serralunga d'Alba, famous for the legendary Vigna Rionda cru.
Founded in 1896 by Giovanni Massolino in Serralunga d'Alba, Massolino is one of Barolo's most historic family estates. Giovanni's son Giuseppe built the estate's first cellar and, in 1934, co-founded the Consorzio di Tutela del Barolo e Barbaresco. Three of Giovanni's grandchildren later expanded the holdings with the acquisition of celebrated cru vineyards — Margheria, Parafada, and, in 1956, the first parcel of Vigna Rionda, a purchase the family still refers to as their 'conquest.' The first Barolo Vigna Rionda was bottled in 1982, and further acquisitions in 1986 and 1990 brought Massolino's holdings to roughly a third of the 10.24-hectare cru. Since the 1990s, fourth-generation siblings Franco and Roberto Massolino, both trained oenologists, have run the estate, balancing traditional methods — long macerations and aging in large Slavonian oak casks — with modern vineyard research. The result is Barolo of exceptional power, structure, and longevity that embodies the classic Serralunga style.
