Massimo Romeo

マッシモ・ロメオ

Small-batch, organically farmed Vino Nobile from Nottola.

Massimo Romeo (also referred to as Cantina Romeo) is a small, artisanal winery in the Nottola district of Montepulciano, Tuscany, farming vineyards at Podere Corsica at roughly 330 meters above sea level. Led by Massimo Romeo, a former president of the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, the estate has practiced organic viticulture since the late 1980s/1990s, avoiding synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers on its gravelly, medium-textured soils planted mainly to Prugnolo Gentile (the local clone of Sangiovese). Production is deliberately limited, with Massimo Romeo overseeing every stage of viticulture and vinification himself. Alongside its flagship Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, the estate produces the cru-level 'Lipitiresco' (first made in 1990, aged around 18 months in French oak barriques), a Riserva labeled 'Riserva dei Mandorli', and a Vin Santo di Montepulciano made from Malvasia, Grechetto and Trebbiano. The estate also cultivates a separate olive grove and runs a small retail outlet in the historic center of Cortona.

Its cherry-and-violet character and firm tannins pair well with Florentine steak, braised red meats, salumi, and Tuscan pici pasta with wild boar or Cinta Senese ragù.
