MIWAKUBO Merlot & Petit Verdot is Marusan Budoshu's small-production red blend from the winery's own Miwakubo plot in Katsunuma, where Merlot and Petit Verdot have been cultivated for more than 20 years. Each variety is picked at its own optimal ripeness to bring out its individual character before blending, then fermented entirely in stainless steel with no oak contact to keep the focus on pure fruit. The nose shows plum, cherry and fig alongside herbal and mushroom-like earthy notes, while Merlot's soft, approachable texture is given structure and complexity by the Petit Verdot.
A rare Japanese Merlot–Petit Verdot blend that proves Katsunuma can do more than Koshu and Muscat Bailey A — don't skip it.
