Iro Koshu is the flagship bottling of Maruki Winery's 'Iro' (color) line — the everyday, entry-tier series built to let each estate grape speak for itself, sitting alongside the winery's more elaborate barrel-aged Raison and Rafeuille ranges. Made from 100% Koshu grown across Yamanashi's varied hillsides (Geographical Indication Yamanashi), the wine is fermented gently at 15-20°C using several complementary yeast strains, then blended from multiple base lots to layer fresh, just-picked aromatics with quiet depth. Notes of Japanese citrus (sudachi, kabosu), green apple and grapefruit lead into a slightly off-dry palate with bright acidity. It is one of the most consistently awarded wines in Maruki's lineup: the 2024 vintage won the Diamond Trophy, the top prize at Sakura Award 2025, following a Double Gold in 2024 and a string of gold and silver medals at Sakura Award, the Japan Wine Competition and Japan Wine Challenge going back to 2016.
Proof that Koshu doesn't need oak or ceremony to shine — Iro Koshu is Maruki's most-awarded everyday white for a reason.
