The barrel-aged expression of Shinshu Miyada Wine's flagship red 'Shiki.' Yama Sauvignon grapes — a cross of Japan's wild mountain grape and Cabernet Sauvignon — are grown by the Yamabudo Cultivation Cooperative in Miyada village, Nagano, then carefully vinified and aged roughly five months in oak barrels at Mars Komagatake Distillery. The result deepens the base wine's vivid purple color and Cabernet-like aroma with a gentle wrapping of oak, layering raspberry-like fruit and pleasant acidity beneath the wild, nostalgic character of yamabudo.

Sommelier's Note

Proof that a whisky distillery can make serious wine — the oak aging tames Yama Sauvignon's wild mountain-grape streak into a genuinely food-friendly red with real depth.

New to wine?

A gentle, approachable way to meet Japan's native yamabudo character — oak aging softens the wild edge into something familiar and food-friendly

Food Pairings

Its raspberry fruit and gentle oak suit grilled or braised red meats, game, and hard cheeses; in Japanese cuisine it pairs well with grilled duck (kamo), beef sukiyaki, or hoba miso.
