L'Orient Koshu Vigne de Shirayuri is Shirayuri Winery's own single-estate Koshu, made exclusively from grapes grown in the winery's own home vineyard in Katsunuma, Koshu City, Yamanashi -- the plot right by the winery itself, after which the wine is named ('Vigne de Shirayuri' meaning 'vineyard of Shirayuri'). Unlike the winery's other single-vineyard premium Koshu bottlings -- 'Vigne de Nakagawa' (grown by veteran contract farmer Kimiharu Nakagawa in Fuefuki City), 'Fukuori Koshu' (a high-elevation tokkyu plot in Enzan) and 'Miyanoue Koshu' (a sandy-soiled plot in Yamanashi City) -- Vigne de Shirayuri is the only bottling made from grapes the winery grows itself on its own estate, rather than from a named grower's or specially designated plot. The grapes are picked at an extended, maximized harvest window to build extra ripeness and depth, and the wine is described by the winery as its finest, top-tier Koshu ('white百合醸造の最高峰甲州ワイン'). It offers rich, ripe citrus aromatics layered with real weight and body on the palate. The 2023 vintage, bottled in a strictly limited run of 1,583 bottles and sold exclusively through the winery's official online shop with a complimentary gift box, won a Gold medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2025 -- one of only two Shirayuri Koshu bottlings (alongside Vigne de Nakagawa) ever to win DWWA Gold.

Sommelier's Note

This is the only Koshu in Shirayuri's single-vineyard lineup grown entirely on the winery's own land -- proof that estate fruit, picked as late as they dare, can rival any named-grower or special-plot bottling. A must-try for anyone who wants to taste Shirayuri's own hands-on winemaking philosophy in a single glass.

New to wine?

A richer, riper take on Koshu than the everyday bottling -- a good next step for anyone who has enjoyed L'Orient's standard Koshu and wants to taste how much depth the grape can reach.

Food Pairings

The wine's ripe citrus richness and fuller body pair well with grilled white fish glazed in miso (saikyo-yaki), tempura, and dishes with a touch of butter or cream, as well as semi-hard washed-rind cheeses. Its extra depth also lets it stand up to slightly richer dishes than a typical Koshu, such as roasted chicken or pork tenderloin with citrus sauce.

When to drink it

Special anniversaries and gifting -- it already arrives in a gift box -- as well as leisurely dinners pairing rich Japanese dishes with a serious, age-worthy Koshu.
