Lomond Wine Estate
ロモンド・ワイン・エステート
Cool-climate wines from Africa's southernmost vineyards, grown alongside pioneering fynbos conservation.
About Lomond Wine Estate
Lomond Wine Estate lies in the Uilenkraal Valley on the Agulhas Plain, near Africa's southernmost point, roughly 8km from where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans converge. Vines were first planted here in 1999, on previously cultivated land only, and the Lomond brand was established in 2004. The maritime climate delivers cooling sea breezes and one of South Africa's coolest ripening seasons, while an intricate patchwork of 18 distinct soil types on the slopes of Ben Lomond mountain gives each vineyard block its own character. Lomond was the first South African wine farm to place a Conservation Servitude with Fauna & Flora International, protecting the critically endangered Elim Ferricrete Fynbos and Overberg Sandstone Fynbos that surrounds its vines, and has belonged to the Walker Bay Fynbos Conservancy since 2005. The range spans everyday Estate wines (Sauvignon Blanc, SSV, Merlot Rosé, Merlot, Syrah), single-vineyard bottlings named after indigenous fynbos species (Pincushion, Sugarbush, Snowbush, Conebush, Cat's Tail, Phantom, Rockpool, Candelabra, Belladonna), the ultra-limited '7 Rows' selection, and Cap Classique sparkling wines.
Who Is This For?
For drinkers who want linear, high-acid cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah and Cap Classique with a genuine sense of place, and for those who value knowing the conservation story behind their wine.
