About JC Wickens Wines
JC Wickens Wines is the Swartland project of winemaker Jasper Wickens, released under the Swerwer label from Waterval farm in the Siebritskloof valley of the Paardeberg. Wickens trained at Stellenbosch University and spent close to a decade as winemaker for A.A. Badenhorst before founding Swerwer in 2012 with his wife, viticulturist Franziska Wickens. Working dry-farmed old vines, he makes wine with minimal intervention — natural fermentation, no new oak, no fining, and only light filtration with minimal added sulphur — in line with the Swartland Independent Producers (SIP) code of practice, of which the estate is a certified member. The range centres on old-vine Chenin Blanc and the rare Semillon Gris (Rooi-Groendruif), alongside Rhône-inspired reds from Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Tinta Barocca and Touriga Nacional.
Who Is This For?
For drinkers who want honest, low-intervention Swartland wines built on old dry-farmed vines rather than technique or new oak.
