J.B. Becker
J.B.ベッカー
Uncompromising, decades-ageing Riesling and Spätburgunder from a small family estate on the Rheingau's eastern edge.
About J.B. Becker
J.B. Becker is a small, fiercely traditionalist family estate in Walluf, on the eastern edge of the Rheingau, founded in 1893 by cooper Jean Baptist Becker. Since taking over with the 1971 vintage, grandson Hans-Josef "HaJo" Becker has run the estate together with his sister Maria. From roughly 13 hectares centered on the Walluf Walkenberg site, the estate is farmed organically, ferments with wild yeast, and ages its wines for a minimum of two years in old, large Rheingau oak casks. Riesling (about three-quarters of plantings) and Spätburgunder are bottled unfiltered, under glass stoppers since the 2003 vintage, in an unapologetically old-school, predominantly bone-dry style prized for extraordinary ageing potential.
Who Is This For?
For collectors and Riesling purists who value old-school, minimal-intervention winemaking, high acidity, and wines built to reward a decade or more in the cellar.
