Minimal-intervention Swartland wines from Paardeberg's granite soils.
About Intellego Wines
Intellego Wines is a small, minimal-intervention producer in the Paardeberg area of the Swartland, South Africa, founded in 2009 by winemaker Jurgen Gouws. The name Intellego is Latin for 'I understand,' reflecting Gouws's pursuit of grasping the true potential of the Swartland's terroir. A member of the Swartland Independent Producers (SIP), Gouws farms organically without irrigation, sourcing grapes from small parcels in the Abbotsdale, Riebeek, and Malmesbury areas around the Paardeberg's granitic soils. He uses no commercial yeasts, bacteria, acid, enzymes or fining agents, with limited sulphur and filtration. Gouws was mentored by leading Swartland figures Eben Sadie, Tom Lubbe (Matassa, Roussillon) and Craig Hawkins, and his wines are distributed to stockists in nine countries including Japan, the UK, and the US.
