Il Fitto

イル・フィット

Cortona's cement-tank Syrah specialist, family-run since 2000.

Il Fitto (also known as Podere Il Fitto) is a family-run estate on the hills between Cortona and Montepulciano in Tuscany's Valdichiana. Its vines were first planted in the early 1900s and expanded through the 1970s, before the estate was rebuilt and revitalized from 2000 onward by Edda Billi, with her husband Franco Fierli tending the vineyards and their son Alessio in the cellar. Of the property's roughly 30 hectares, 15 are under vine, planted mainly to Syrah alongside Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and the white varieties Grechetto, Trebbiano Toscano, and Malvasia, on clay-silt soils mixed with Pliocene marine sands. The flagship Cortona DOC Syrah is fermented and aged largely in cement tanks to protect fruit purity and let the appellation's terroir show through, with some cuvées seeing French oak. The estate farms organically, produces around 30,000 bottles a year across seven labels plus olive oil, and welcomes visitors through its small agriturismo.
