Haramo Harmo Noir is a rare, single-varietal red from Haramo Wine, a long-established winery in Katsunuma, Yamanashi, made entirely (100%) from Harmo Noir — a Japanese indigenous red grape bred at the Yamanashi Prefectural Fruit Tree Experiment Station by crossing Cabernet Sauvignon with Zweigelt. Sold only directly from the winery, the 2021-harvest bottling (labeled "Harmo Noir '21") was released in a strictly limited run of 585 bottles. It offers a medium-bodied dry profile with soft, gentle tannins and mild acidity, showing bright, approachable red-fruit character. This cuvee is a distinct product from Haramo's other Harmo Noir wine, Haramo Red Barrel Aged, which blends 84% Petit Verdot with only 16% Harmo Noir and is matured in oak barrels; Haramo Harmo Noir, by contrast, is a 100% single-varietal, unblended bottling that lets the indigenous grape stand fully on its own.

Sommelier's Note

A rare chance to taste Harmo Noir entirely on its own — where Haramo's blended Red Barrel Aged uses only 16% of this grape, this bottling lets the indigenous varietal speak for itself.
