Gracciano della Seta
グラッチャーノ・デッラ・セータ
Historic organic estate crafting elegant Vino Nobile since the 1800s.
Located in the vineyards surrounding the hilltop town of Montepulciano in southeastern Tuscany, Gracciano della Seta (commercially labeled Tenuta di Gracciano della Seta) is one of the oldest estates producing Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The property was originally part of a much larger holding of the Svetoni family, who owned it from the early 19th century and built the estate's villa and Italian-style gardens; the estate's Vino Nobile was awarded first prize at the International Fair of Turin in 1864. Through inheritance the property passed to Giorgio della Seta, and today it is run by his children Marco, Vannozza, and Galdina della Seta Ferrari Corbelli Greco. The roughly 70-hectare estate, of which 20 hectares are vineyard planted on clay and silty soils, has been certified organic since 2015. Wines are made primarily from Prugnolo Gentile, the local Sangiovese clone, with minimal technological intervention and aging in a combination of traditional large casks and smaller tonneaux, yielding elegant, traditional Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Riserva, Rosso di Montepulciano DOC, and Rosato di Toscana IGT.
