ジョルジョ・メレッティ・カヴァッラーリ

Bolgheri's rising estate, founded by Grattamacco's heir

Founded in 2002 by Giorgio Meletti Cavallari (b. 1978, Bergamo), son of Piermario Meletti Cavallari, the founder of the historic Grattamacco estate, this is a distinct and independent winery within the Bolgheri DOC. After studying oenology and working in Franciacorta, Chianti Classico, and California, Giorgio struck out on his own, planting vineyards and building a cellar from scratch. The estate farms 14 hectares within the Bolgheri DOC, anchored by two standout parcels: Piastraia, the highest vineyard in the appellation at roughly 350 meters above sea level with skeletal galestro schist soils, and Vallone, a clay-limestone site in the foothills. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Vermentino, and Viognier are grown. The flagship wine, Impronte (a Bolgheri Superiore DOC blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Cabernet Franc from Piastraia), has earned strong critical acclaim, including 95 points from Jeb Dunnuck and 94 from James Suckling for the 2021 vintage. The name 'Impronte' means 'fingerprints' in Italian, echoing the fingerprint motif on the estate's labels, which symbolizes the personal, handmade bond between winemaker and wine.
