Hương Thơm Rouge is the red wine in Gio Hills Winery's aroma-focused 'Hương Thơm' (Vietnamese for 'fragrance') series, alongside a Blanc counterpart. Made from an undisclosed grape variety grown in the winery's own vineyards on the Mimakigahara plateau in Komoro, Nagano, it is fermented with wild (ambient) yeast and deliberately given no oak aging so the wine speaks in the grape's own voice. The result is a light-to-medium-bodied red built around bright red-fruit character and natural acidity, with the producer keeping its own tasting notes intentionally spare so drinkers discover the aroma for themselves.

Sommelier's Note

A red that trusts the grape rather than the winemaker's toolbox — no oak, no fanfare, just wild-yeast fermentation left to speak for itself. Proof that restraint can be its own style statement.

New to wine?

A gentle, food-friendly red for those who find typical reds too heavy — with no oak, nothing hides the fruit.

Food Pairings

Its light body and bright acidity make it a natural match for everyday cooking rather than heavy fare — try it with yakitori (especially salt-seasoned), grilled chicken or pork, or the Vietnamese-inspired dishes served at the winery's own café, such as herb-forward salads and lightly spiced grilled meats.

When to drink it

Casual weeknight dinners, izakaya-style gatherings, or a visit to Gio Hills' on-site café pairing wine with Vietnamese food.

Terroir & Winemaking

Fermented with wild (ambient) yeast; no oak aging. The grape variety is not disclosed by the producer. Sold in 750ml bottles at a retail price of approximately ¥3,850.
