Cederberg's Elim coastal range, named for 130+ shipwrecks at 'Ghost Corner'

About Ghost Corner

Ghost Corner is a single-vineyard-focused range crafted by acclaimed South African winemaker David Nieuwoudt, best known for leading his family's Cederberg Private Cellar in the Cederberg Wilderness. The grapes are grown in Elim, near Cape Agulhas at the southern tip of Africa — an area nicknamed 'Spookdraai' (Ghost Corner) after the more than 130 shipwrecks along its treacherous coastline, where compass readings show no deviation between magnetic and true north. The grapes are vinified and matured at the Cederberg cellar roughly 300km to the north. Note: Ghost Corner is not related to Cape Point Vineyards, despite that being a common assumption — Cape Point Vineyards' actual second label is called Splattered Toad. The Ghost Corner range centers on cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc (including a Wild Ferment bottling), Semillon, a Sauvignon Blanc–Semillon blend called The Bowline, and Pinot Noir, all shaped by Elim's lime-rich soils, slate and gravel deposits, and cooling southeasterly winds.
