Gemma

Environmentally certified, age-worthy Barolo from Serralunga d'Alba.
Founded in 1978 by Silvano Piacentini in Serralunga d'Alba — one of the most prestigious communes of the Barolo zone — Gemma (Cantine Gemma) is now run by his son Luigi Piacentini. The estate owns roughly 26 hectares of vineyards spread across Serralunga d'Alba, Monforte d'Alba, La Morra and Roddino, producing Barolo (including the single-commune Barolo Colarej and Barolo Riserva Giblin), Barbera d'Alba and Dolcetto d'Alba. In 2012 the winery renewed its production facilities with modern, environmentally conscious technology — including a photovoltaic plant and a geothermal system — earning ISO 14067 certification for zero net CO2 emissions across the entire process, from vineyard to bottle. The house style favors traditional Nebbiolo winemaking married to precise, sustainable modern practice, producing structured, age-worthy wines that express the powerful, mineral character of Serralunga soils.
