About this wine
F.X. Pichler's pinnacle Riesling from the Wachau, meaning 'infinite'. A benchmark of Austrian Riesling at Smaragd level, showing extraordinary minerality and longevity.
This is a legendary, ultra-rare wine — one of the world's greatest dry Rieslings. Take your time and let it open in the glass to experience how the aromas evolve.
Sommelier's Note
"Widely regarded as the definitive benchmark for dry Austrian Riesling, Unendlich is sourced from F.X. Pichler's oldest vine parcels in Dürnstein and Loiben and made only in exceptional vintages. Its combination of extreme concentration, crystalline minerality and near-endless finish places it among the greatest white wines in the world."
Food Pairings
Pairs beautifully with lobster, roasted turbot and other rich white fish, veal dishes, and refined Japanese cuisine such as tai sashimi or tempura — dishes with enough richness and umami to match its concentration and acidity.
When to drink it
A showpiece for milestone celebrations, fine dining pairings, or serious collector tastings — best reserved for special occasions given its rarity.

Terroir & Winemaking
Blended from a selection of F.X. Pichler's finest old-vine Riesling parcels around Dürnstein and Loiben (including sites such as Kellerberg, Liebenberg/Höhereck and Loibenberg), hand-harvested at peak ripeness with very low yields. Fermented in stainless steel, then aged for an extended period in large traditional oak casks (500 liters, some new) before bottling. Classified as Smaragd, the Vinea Wachau's highest ripeness category, produced only in exceptional vintages.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What does 'Unendlich' mean?
- German for 'infinite' or 'endless' — a reference to the wine's extraordinarily long, lingering finish. First produced in 1998, the label features imagery from Mozart's opera The Magic Flute.
- How rare is this wine?
- It is one of the rarest and most sought-after Austrian Rieslings, made only in exceptional vintages from very low yields off F.X. Pichler's oldest vine parcels, with limited production of only a few hundred cases.
- What does it taste like?
- Crystalline purity of stone fruit, apricot, citrus and honeyed notes layered over an intensely mineral, almost saline core, with a powerful structure and a finish that can last for minutes.
- What food pairs well with it?
- Lobster, roasted turbot or other rich white fish, veal, and refined Japanese cuisine such as sashimi or tempura — dishes that can stand up to its concentration and acidity.
- When is the best time to drink it?
- It can be enjoyed young but truly shines with 5 to 20+ years of cellaring, as its complexity continues to unfold for decades.
