Franschhoek Cellar

フランシュック・セラー

A 1920s Franschhoek landmark reborn as a stylish wine-and-food destination.

About Franschhoek Cellar

Franschhoek Cellar traces its roots to 1945, when a community of local grape farmers founded it as a co-operative to vinify their harvest together. Its historic cellar building, erected in 1920 by John Winshaw (founder of Stellenbosch Winery), now houses a stylishly renovated wine-and-food destination in the heart of the Franschhoek Valley. Having shed its old co-operative image, it operates today as a private winery within DGB (Pty) Ltd's premium wine stable, crafting Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon with a character that echoes the valley's French Huguenot heritage. Its Village Walk range names individual wines after local landmarks, such as the Statue de Femme Sauvignon Blanc and La Cotte Mill Chenin Blanc, and its wines have placed in South Africa's VERITAS competition, including a Silver Medal for the 2021 Sauvignon Blanc. On site, visitors can taste multiple wine ranges under one roof at the Cellar Door tasting room, dine at the Taste Kitchen restaurant on shaded lawns with vineyard and mountain views, and enjoy a family-friendly setting with a children's play area.
